Federico García Lorca fue músico antes que poeta. A través de sus vecinos y sirvientes, la gente común experimentó el contacto más auténtico con la música de su tierra, como recordó en numerosas ocasiones. La relación con la música continuó durante la adolescencia a traves de estudios de piano. Las canciones recogidas por Lorca tienen diferentes origenes, pero las más autenticamente ligadas a sus origenes son las melodías que escuchaba de niño en el ambiente de Granada.
